Dean, That is exactly the slightly long winded approach I was referring to, it does however mean that the phone still rings, just silently, so that Neil Barnfather WFA List Administrator Talks List Host TalkNav is a Nuance Accessibility and Wayfinder Access dealer / distributor, with product activation codes delivered direct to your mailbox why not use TalkNav today? you're not aware of it. <http://www.talknav.com/> http://www.talknav.com service@xxxxxxxxxxx _____ From: talks-uk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:talks-uk-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Dean Wilcox Sent: 16 August 2009 11:03 To: talks-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [talks-uk] Re: Barring Someone's Number If you just don't want to be notified of a call but are happy for the other person to hear it ring and know your number is still active then you can do this with what is already built into the phone. When in contacts, move right once to the groups tab. You can now add people to groups, change what ringtone plays for a particular group and so on. First add the people you don't want to be notified for to a group and go in profiles for I think most profiles there is an option that says alert for all calls. Go in and just uncheck the group you just made, making sure the others are checked assuming you want them all checked. At 07:14 16/08/2009, you wrote: Hi Matt, I know what you mean, and I agree. But although I havent looked at that software myself, it looks pretty sophisticated, in that you can even get it to take the callers name, ring you and play it to you, and give you the option to reject, pass it to voice mail or let you answer it. But I agree it wouldnt let you physically block the call. It looks pretty advanced though. Again, I dont know of its accessibility with Talks either. You cannot bar someone from calling or texting or sending multimedia messages. All you can do is add software to your phone that recognises the in coming number and prevents your phone from alerting you. Effectively it does the following things: Automatically presses the red end button for you if the in coming caller is in the black list. It also prevents your phone from letting you know audibly or visually that a call is coming in from that number. The only way you can sometimes tell is that your phone may give a tiny tiny vibrate because although the software is quick, it does need a millisecond to do all these clever things. It also automatically removes any evidence of that in coming call from your call log. Automatically deletes any in coming text or MMS messages and prevents your phone from sounding a new message tone or displaying the fact you've had a new message on your screen. In fact it doesn't even let the screen light up! What it cannot do, is fool the caller/message sender in to thinking your number no longer exists! If they call you, they'll go right through to voicemail unless you have it disabled, because remember its just like you hearing your phone ring and announce the caller and deciding you don't want to talk to them right now. You just hit end and they'll be passed over to voicemail. That's exactly what blocking software does, but it does it much quicker than you ever could. Text and MMS messages are delivered to your phone, its just that your phones blocking software deletes them literally as soon as they land in your inbox! This means that if the sender has delivery reports enabled, they will know the text arrived. All blocking software does is allow you to have a hassle-free life. It does not convince pesky callers that you've changed your number! I must have a look though at this.
