Hey Joe, I find that your story is the closest to mine, with a strong = link to the growing up phase, and the will to get back to that period of = time, despite the hardware failures and the loss of information. This is all = about nostalgia, isn't it? In 1988, I was 16. My friend got me hooked on Dungeon Master. I wanted an ST so bad that I worked almost 40 hours / week while going to high school at $3.20 / hour to save up for an ST. A 1040 ST was about $1500 at the time. I saved up about $750. My mom pitched in the other half. That ST was my one and only computer until 1993 and I used it all the time. In 1993, I went the way of the PC, but I still played games on the ST. In 2001, half of my disks were too degraded to read.=20 This saddened me very much until I learned about the ST community. I found replacements for all of my degraded floppies, replacing many fond memories of growing up. I made images of my good floppies, which were featured for a while on a website that was hosted by a really nice guy named MODULA. Hey MODULA, if your still out there, send me an e-mail! In 2003, I had collected so much Atari stuff that I decided to share it with the masses via an FTP site that I simply dubbed Joe's Atari Stuff (http://www.visi.com/~josephnewton/atari/). > How many do you have? Which model? I have 2 Atari 1040 STs, but only one that works. The one I bought in 1988 had been used so much that about 1/3rd of the keys on the keyboard no longer responded. Fortunately, an old friend of mine gave me his 1040 ST which was in perfect condition, except that the pins on his monitor cable were smashed in. I used the monitor cable from my ST to fix his and viola! I have an ST that is in perfect condition, though I now only use STEEM. STEEM is so incredible and much more convenient than the actual ST. > How much do you like it? I love having my ST games available to me. They were a huge part of my growing up. When I was a teenager, I was constantly getting in to trouble, so I was grounded to my room a lot, which meant I spent a lot of time with my ST. > Are you some of you not working in the computer industry now? Nowadays, I work with the infrastructure of data networks for a large corporation. > How do you still like to use them? Mainly for games. > What are your favourite programs/games? I'll always love Dungeon Master. My other favorites are: Star Raiders Barbarian (aka Deathsword) Night Hunter Typhoon Thompson In Search of the Seachild Backlash Chip's Challenge Laser Chess (the best PD game ever) Mercenary: Escape From Targ Technocop Any of the Sierra On-line games That's more than long enough, so I'll shut up now.
