Hi, Didier.
I've used the script, latest, a lot recently. (This is with 14.2.) I'm
wondering if I should use it every day before starting Firefox for the
first time, but I'm not sure even that will solve the problem. I'd
gladly use the Slint package when I move to 15, but I think I'd get the
same problem as soon as Firefox tried to update itself. I don't pretend
to understand the software, so I can't write knowledgeably about
causation here. It's only that the problem recurs regularly in the same
way.
I admit that these apparent automatic updating attempts are less
irritating than the ones on our Windows machine, which often kick us out
of a program we're using and make it difficult for us to figure out what
to do. Still, I think we should be able to allow or disable them as we
wish.
Best!

Hi Al,===============================================================================
Maybe you used the "latest" script to get the latest versions of Firefox and/or
Thunderbird instead of the Slint package (actually a Slackware package) and
since then a newer version was released.
Of this is the case you have a choice between to options:
1) Whenever this message appear, run again as root:
latest firefox.
2) Use instead the distribution package, removing Firefox and/or Thunderbird
from the blacklist in /etc/slapt-get/slapt-getrc.
If you want guidance for doing the atter, please attach this file to your next
message.

Greetings!===============================================================================
I was using Firefox and got an alert that it couldn't update. I tried to stop
this from happening, but obviously failed. Anyway, when I got out of Firefox,
my speech was gone. I had to use control-C in the terminal where I'd used
startx, then use startx again to get my gui back.
I of course don't want Firefox to update this way, since I want to use either
the relevant package in the Slint repository or use latest to update it.
I don't know whether it's always because Firefox was trying to update, but
losing speech this way happens almost daily. It also happens with Thunderbird,
typicall after I've written and sent a message. Does anybody know what's going
on or how to rectify it?
Thanks for any help.
Al
