A lot of the standard navigation keystrokes don't work correctly in the score without special scripting. The problem is that the default JAWS scripts contain a lot of code which is supposed to deal with all the situations in which those keystrokes are used. For example, LeftArrow triggers a whole pile of functions which try to find the character to the left of the caret. Alt+DownArrow is a very nasty one too, because JAWS tries to open a list box, which the score definitely isn't. I can't remember if Tab works properly or not but this is a vital keystroke because it selects the first item in the score. You can then keep pressing it until you've selected a note or rest. If you want to know what's going on in the score you can open the properties window and make sure that the general button is pressed. You may have to do some JAWS cursoring to find the general button. It should be immediately below the title of the properties window. The one complication is that the title of the properties window changes to reflect what is selected in the score. If nothing is selected, it will show the title "no selection". Once the properties window is working, press JAWS+S until screen echo is set to all. If you need to navigate in the score, you may need to press JAWS+NumberRoww3 every time, just in case JAWS tries to do something silly. It could be worse. Pressing Ctrl+Alt+DownArrow in Sibelius 4 whilst JAWS was running was an instant recipe for death.
