Dave,

When I open a Sibelius 5 file that the engraver has sent, Sibelius does it
without complaining, and asks no questions whatsoever.

Dale,

Most likely that Sibelius 7 saving a Sibelius 5 file has some formatting
that is automatically readjusted by Sibelius 5 upon opening.

When you open one of these files, does Sibelius 5 ask you questions about
format, beam groups, etc? Or does it simply load it without any complaints
or questions?

Even if it doesn't ask you questions, it is very likely that your Sib 7
engraver is using fonts that you don't have with Sibelius 5 and Sibelius 5
is just substituting fonts to the next closest match. That would of course
be considered changes when you try to close it.

You may want to ask your engraver to use only fonts that are available in
Sibelius 5 before saving off in that format, but I suspect it would be a lot

of hassle for them.

I suggest that you first make a copy of that Sib 5 file as received and only

work with the copy, allowing Sib 5 to save changes.

Then send both back with appropriate filenames so that the engraver can see
if any font changes were made along with your tweaks.

There are several things that change with each migration of Sibelius, and
these are discussed in the reference manual, describing the various changes
made through all the versions. You should use the latest Sib7 manual to
review these changes from 5 to 7.
