I think at the highest level of all animal sports, some animals suffer.
Look at Tennessee Walking Horses, hunters/jumpers (tack rails anyone?????)
etc. In dogs I have watched some OB and field folks train who were just
NUTS. I wanted to put the e-collars on them. I don't own an e-collar.
Somehow I got straight go-outs without them. If I didn't...well, I might have
a
crooked go-out but I still wouldn't have an e-collar.

Whenever ego and animal sports collide, the animal comes out the loser.
Sad.

I have been on a Schutzhund field, I have gone to their training and not
just 1-2x but a club rented a building for training after our ob class. I
met some very GOOD dog people. I also met more than a fair share of
crazies, who ONLY focus on bite work, part of the my-dog-hits-hard crowd and
I-do-whatever-is-necessary to make it. (And I do mean whatever). I have seen
more than a few dogs ruined and discarded. Sad.

So while I admire the people who train for all phases, with common sense
and compassion, because IMO the sport attracts more than its fair share of
nut jobs I understand exactly what Norma is saying...boy I am so not
interested. I also won't sell a puppy to someone who wants to play in that
arena.
Not because I think a dog couldn't do it...I question their motives and
I've met one too many nut job "trainers" from that sport.

And before someone wants to question if my dogs can work, I'll wager I've
put more performance titles on dogs than the doubters. I'll win the bet.

Had a young guy out today. He had a crowd of children around him between
winners and breed that would rival a pied piper. You couldn't come into his
house uninvited though. And don't touch my nephew. Not sure he'd "out".
That's more my speed.

I think its getting like ancient Rome where everyone was turning thumbs
