Gee, stole my thunder. When I first went to the puppy pen to pick my first GSD (actually my second, but long story), I watched them run around a large yard. I didn't know GSDs, didn't really know purebred dogs very much at that point, but I knew that the pup I picked had the best movement of the group. And it turned out that way for THAT litter. I didn't even know why I wanted movement, I was that naive! And later, about the time she was finishing, I saw movement that was better than hers. I was a horse person/trainer growing up and I suppose that had something to do with it, but Really, I think some people have "the eye" and some don't.
