Hi Laurie; The Board IS expected to read all the reports before the meeting. But if you read Tish's post you will see that occasionally a report is not sent in time. You can never "X out" the human factor. E-mails occasionally fail, computers crash... people get sick and have family members that are ill......things just occasionally go wrong for one of the Board members and a report is not sent in time for all the Board to read ahead of time. Regarding going to find them posted on the Parent Club web site.....I personally prefer that the reports be sent to us as Board members as well as be posted on the site if it gets done that way. I just do not have time to go into our Parent Club web site and look for things. As it is.....they ARE e-mailed and we all have the opportunity to read them and print them. I don't print every single one as some require no action. Kathaleen has done a great job of having them printed and ready for us at the Board meeting but I'm not sure that she will always continue to do that. It sure was and is appreciated when she does......again.....never "X out" that "human factor"........occasionally they can be forgotten in the packing process and left at home. I agree that it is the membership that helps keep the Parent Club solvent and I believe every single Board member is more than award of any responsibility for the Clubs money. It DOES matter. I do agree with some that the Board could easily function with fewer Board members. That would require a By Law change and be up to the membership. The Club is in good financial condition at this time.....but it would only take a couple of huge losses with a couple of Nationals to change that......and I think we ALL need to be aware of that. Anyone who says it does not matter just needs to watch the current situation on the news ...........surely no one has missed it. <G> We all know Clubs are failing....show entries are dropping and we are losing members in more ways than one. I agree.....We NEVER should discount the Parent Clubs financial condition...... I believe that it would make everyone's life easier (and the club's business more transparent to the membership) if all committee reports were posted on the GSDCA website for the board (and the membership) to review prior to board meetings. That would eliminate mailing and copying costs - individuals could assume the responsibility of printing reports if wanted (but it wouldn't be necessary - reports could be reviewed online).
