Or better said, why the H*@#LL would anyone want to become a judge? You're
damned if you do, and you're damned if you don't. Put up dogs belonging to
people you know, and you "put up your friends". Don't put up dogs belonging
to people you know, and "you don't have the kahonnies to put up the best dog
just because it belongs to a friend". Put up a dog, and you're doing it
because you're friends with the breeder. Put up another one whose owner
lives in the same half of the CONTINENT that you do, and you're doing it
because you're neighbors. Oh....here's another one.....you're putting up a
dog and dumping another because you are eliminating the competition for your
own dog. .....That was said about me the last time I judged a
futurity.....That I put up the junior dog because my Suicide Squeeze had won
his futurity and I was eliminating his competition.....NEVER MIND that the
junior dog I put up was BUNGEE, who went FUTURITY VICTOR that year, and as
we all know eventually GRAND VICTOR............Yes...there are some
political judges. But there are plenty that are not. There are also some
EXHIBITORS that are political, and plenty that are not. Why did I become a
judge?.........I loved the breed, loved the sport, knew I would be honest,
and I thought I could do a good job. While flying out to California last
Thurs, I had the chance to again reflect on what an impact the breed and the
sport has had on my life. Beside the everyday joys of living with the dogs,
I have made friends and acquaintances all over the country, and have been
able to travel and enjoy places I never may have been able to visit.....For
this I am grateful........I had a wonderful time in California this past
weekend....enjoyed seeing folks I only get to see at the National, and also
enjoyed judging a beautiful group of animals. I gave my honest
opinion...and that.....plus $4.00 will get you a cup of coffee!!! (at
Starbucks- or as we call it Four Bucks!)
