In my opinion the reason that Futurities have become so important is the RED
BOOK.
I worked on the early Red Books with Cappy, as did others. The tabulations
we did then, were just that, tabulations. There was no quest for top or top
ten etc.
It was originally set up as a breeders tool, enabling us to look at
bloodline combinations that clicked.
As we all know the Red Book has grown. In my opinion the quest for obtaining
top sire or dam and the recognition it brings is more what it is about
today.
