Terry, I am NOT in favor of reducing the Futurity regions.
I just feel from years of experience(35 +) that the quest for all the frills
and the fame has changed the original concept. Further I feel it has made it
out or reach for the average exhibitor with a better than average dog, with out
the pocket book to manage that career.
As for me I will always have and love a GSD.
However, I am no longer willing to play the game. I will show my support to the
breed that I love in other ways, that don't include entries, exhibiting and
handler fees.

The reason the Futurities have become what they are now is we made them that
way. We felt it important enough to pay the handling fees instead of getting in
the ring with our dogs. We the members of the PC decided that it was worth the
price and wrote the check. We are now too old to run with our dogs, so we either
pay to play with the system that we created or we do not.

If you reduce the regions you will elimante the few that remain that can
owner handle. Most of these people are younger and have young children at home.
If they must travel long distances they will probably choose not to fly with
their pups and the children.

I don't understand why making it harder to get to is thought to be the big
cure for the Fut Mat.

I have no idea how many regions there are on the east coast. Maybe there are
too many regions there. Maybe they could be cut back. I know that if I had to
travel to Sacramento to a MP Fut I probably would not go. It would depend on
the judge and the shows that went with it.
The farther you travel to a show the fewer dogs you take with you.

Thank you Beryl. You have said it eloquently to be sure!!
But, unfortunately the Futurities just mimic the specialties and that
might be how breeders, exhibitor's, and most others, look at it.
The idea that it is a puppy match is no longer part of the equation.
