[ SHOWGSD-L ] Re: What was the influence?

I don't think it can be blamed on any one particular dog - rather than in
breeding for, how should I say this, for looseness in ligament that would
dogs to reach better, both front and rear. The improved reach was not due to
correctness, but due to looseness in ligamentation. Not only were you
seeing dogs walking on their hocks, or the hocks having calluses because they
hit the ground before the pad did, but dogs were going down on their fronts
also because the pasterns were not held tightly in place. Not breeders
were not completely stupid. They bred away from the dogs they though were
causing these problems and ligamentation is much better in our breed today.
This is a very simplistic statement of my personal opinion.
Others may have different ideas.

Was there a particular "popular stud" that started this trend, or was
it a combination of breedings that were winning (how???). It must
have started from someplace, and breeders were breeding to dogs who
looked like that, or it wouldn't have happened.
I'm just curious. This is far enough in the past that I think we can
discuss the wherefores and whyfores w/out being negative about anybody.
