I think this is a matter of some confusion for the judges. In a similar
situation, a few years ago, a 9 to 12 month old puppy went winners bitch, but
I, with my 6 to 9 month puppy was called back into the ring for Best Puppy.
When we tried to explain the situation to the judge, he said that these two
puppies have not been judged against each other so he needed them to be, in
order to determine best puppy (???). My puppy won over the winners
bitch.....didn't make sense to me.

That's always been my understanding; that once a puppy (or dog) was
defeated, they're done for further competition.
I KNOW there is a stipulation in the GSDCA judging program WHEN BP will be
judged if a puppy happens to go winners, but that doesn't address ELIGIBILITY,
rather TIMING of the class.
However, I'm dealing with Events today, so I asked the AKC Events department
for clarification, AND, for sure this year, because the 9-12 bitch went RWB
(and the 6-9 didn't go WB), the 6-9 puppy bitch was ineligible to compete.
Now...will the AKC catch/correct it?
NO. (They don't record BP/BOSP.)
BTW, the gentleman I spoke to (a judge prior to working for the AKC) was
surprised the judge didn't catch it. I explained it was a different judge. His
next comment was he was surprised the ring steward didn't catch it. It
sounds from Evan's post ("Karen Wagner came to the announcer's table and told
us
only the three puppies were to come in for Best Puppy."), that Karin did
indeed catch it, and was right, but was "out voted".
Now, if the parties involved want to correct it, they can. Technically,
when the 9-12 bitch went Reserve over the 6-9 puppy bitch, she was guaranteed,
at a minimum, BOP.
(What is amazing to me is that there were HOW many judges there? Somebody
who knew the rules didn't back Karin up????)
