Paulette -- Your last line is all by itself Hall-of-Fame worthy.
Brilliant. Your whole post is right on,but we littluns need to remember
that for some of the pomposto poobahs, the National is a place to assiduously
practice shoulder rubbing,party throwing and going,influence seeking,and
future assignment and major win setting-upping. Let the denials commence.

Perhaps when I'm an Oldie instead of a Newbie, I'll feel as you do, Evan.
But right now, I want to attend as many Nationals as I can to be around some
of the finest GSD's in the world!

I don't give a darn if anyone speaks to me or not. I don't care if I meet a
soul. I want to see the most incredible Breed on Earth gaiting around that
big ring!

All I know is that I'm in it for the DOGS! And where else can I see as many
representatives of the Breed I love, gathered in one place, than at the
National? (Well, at a Sieger show too, but that's another story...)

That said, I'd like the National to be held where the most dogs can get to
it. I want to attend a National and be able to see what breeders in
different regions of the country are producing.

I can't afford to and just don't care to fly a thousand plus miles to attend
a routine Specialty show with only a handful of entries. However, I'm more
than willing to save my money and fly thousands of miles to a National with
entries from all over the country!

If I simply want to socialize, I'll throw a pool party.

As for location.? I like the rotating idea the best.? I may not be able to

We need to be honest with ourselves. We have a national as a way to
recognize ourselves, meet new people, have some fun with old friends, and
get
together. The dogs give us an excuse, but if you want to see what is being
produced, go to the home of a breeder and look at the litter.

It is sort of like your highschool reunion. The person who weighs 400
pounds just skips the reunion. Of course everyone looks better than you,
only the
face lift crowd shows up.

No one will bring the crippled or deformed dog to the national, so all you
see is the best that is being produced. Does that give you a true idea of
what
is being produced? No. But, you can ask, you can listen, you can learn,
and
that is with the people there, which brings me to my first point.

If you have the national in one location, you will get the same people
every
year, with a few who would go anywhere, and those who lost their jobs, got
a
cut in pay, retired or have gained 400 pounds staying home. They would stay
home anyway.

Rotate, and let us work on getting there. If it is important and possible,
we will be there. If we weigh so much the airline has decided to charge
extra
to carry us, we won't go. Build it and we will come.
