Years ago Daphane Herford offered the Rin Tin Tin collection to the GSDCA.
Daphane did not want it to go to the AKC.
At that time the board turned her down. The decision was that we could not
afford to insure it, and there was no place to store it. Daphane did bring
part of her collection to a National, and there were original Breed
Cards,and things from the beginning of the breed. I don't know if Daphane is
still willing to work with the parent club, I think she is upset over the way
she was treated.
Then as I understand it, Tom and Vivian Brown were going to gather the
history of our club. They brought together a fantastic number of articles and
pictures and brought them to the National. There was talk of making a book
of them, but as far as I know nothing was done.
The problems that have come up are that when a committee was involved,
nothing gets done. I don't know if Tom and Vivian are still willing to try to
do the history of our breed, I think they may be fed up with the way they
were treated.
I had planned a video interview with the "giants of our breed" and was
going to do it myself. I had set up some interviews, but then I was convinced
to allow a club member to take it over, and he went to the GSDCA for help.
It was never done. I can say for sure, I am no longer interested in doing
it.
We should maintain the history of our club. That was what the Policy and
Procedure Manual was to be. It was to show all the motions and actions
approved at the board meetings. It has been represented as some sort of ruling
document, but was not intended to be so.
I don't know if anyone is still interested in the history of our breed or
our club. Like gravestones, it might only be interesting for the generation
alive today, and never considered in the future.
In the future will anyone remember that the Atlanta Falcons played in the
2017 Super Bowl?
