I completely disagree with knees to the chest....good way to stop a heart. In puppy class, we teach people to just stand there, cross their arms, and wait. In the case of older, larger puppies, we recommend telling them to do something else (tell the dog what you WANT not what you DON'T want), or simply walking away. If they won't play gently, they don't get to play.
