I read many of the answers and what I would say is if things are tight,
take care of you and your comfort level FIRST.
I was raised by a fiscal conservative (read banker father). Pay off debt,
have good insurance, fund your retirement, have 6-8 months of LIQUID rainy
day fund. Support your favorite charities, especially in this horrible
economy. Have a rainy day fund for doggy emergencies too.
Then if you want to renew....fine.
Now, I am cautious and I LOVE saving money. Yes, I take clothes to the
dry cleaners on Thursday and I'm not embarrassed to use coupons. But if all
of the things above weren't handled, no way would I be renewing a dog club
membership.
BTW, some free advice, probably worth what you paid for it <G> but look
into having your property taxes re-assessed. I did. Every county/township
has a different procedure, <on their web site> and usually a different
window of time, but you mentioned higher taxes. There's no sense paying
inflated property taxes on a house that depreciated.
