Oh My, after reading this mans sensationalized retort I'm almost ready to
jump sides. Unfortunately, the states efforts to prevent " Do it Yourself
C-Sections" aren't hype. We just had a man who was charged here in
Lancaster County admit to doing it. He also amputated legs that had become
gangrenous from injuries sustained by a dog falling thru the wire bottom of
his cage. As for tail-docking being no more painful than clipping toenails?
Oh, come on. Both tail docking and dewclaw removal are painful even when
done at 3 days ( which is considered the optimal time). Do the puppies
recover quickly, yes. But they still yelp and cry. Now, don't write and
tell me why its important to remove dewclaws. I know why, and I would
agree. However, show John Q. Public a video of a puppy having it done, or
its tail docked and they'll call Mr. Yates a liar. It is not the same as
clipping toenails. ....And thats on a Good Day!!! I have seen far to many
puppys with hugely infected paws because they were done late and with dirty
instruments. Mr. Yates is assuming all puppys are kept clean and in a clean
enviroment. Unfortunately that isn't true. I"ve said it before, and I'll
say it again...I think aligning ourselves with the puppy millers is a
mistake. They are going to drag us down with them. Pa. is trying to
reconize the difference between a hobbyist and a commercial breeder and if
that means we have to do dewclaws by day 4, or take them to a vet so be it.
If your operating budget is that close then you don't have anything for
emergencies ( like a C-Section) either. As for dog law arresting people
because they don't have documentation at what age thier adult dog was had
its dewclaws removed or its tail docked....do you really think dog law has
nothing else to do? Puppy sales bring too much money into the state for
stupid stuff like that. Please spare the "first they came for the hunter"
story. JMO as always, Sue T.
