I think what he is saying is similar to what they do in some breeds of horses.
Every so often you can "appendix" register a horse, ie you can take an
appaloosa and breed to a quarter horse, then take the resulting progeny and go
back into appaloosa lines. I had an App that had lines that went back to
quarter horse for one generation. This was done to get more mane and tail as
typically Apps don't have much. However, my app did not have color, not one
spot and the only sclerotic coloring of the skin he had was on his testicles,
which were removed! LOL! He did have a beautiful mane and tail, though but he
lacked all the traits that would distinguish him as an appaloosa!I also had an
appendix registered quarter horse mare. Her lines were outcrossed with
Thoroughbreds. She was not a great mare. She was refined like a thoroughbred
can be, and she did not have the typical sound temperament of many quarter
horses.In other words, like my appaloosa, she was not the "best of both worlds"
either. Awhile back there was a discussion about "Oppenhiemer's rules" One of
those rules( and its one of my favorites) is to not do injudicious outcrosses
as they lead to an amalgamation of problems, and the outcome of your litters
are hard to predict. Outcrosses should only be done for an absolute specific
reason, and then you are to keep ONLY the progeny that exhibit the improvement.
naturally Oppenheimer was talking about within the breed, could you imagine the
problems you could potentially get and how unpredictable even your future
litters would be if you were to outcross to a different breed??? Christine

In the T. Becker interview, he mentions creating healthier dogs by taking a
registered dog and breeding it to another similar (same group), registered
breed of dog. Ultimately, creating a mixed breed, but healthier? How can this
be healthier.. much less ever registered? And, who is going to do all the
fixing and breeding of all groups? It sounds like a structure made of cards,
we'll just knock it all over and start from the beginning. Holy smoke!!
