I believe that is still correct. DM is a disease of old age in dogs.
Many other conditions, illnesses, injuries can mimic DM.
While a vet can use CT scan, MRI, spinal tap, X-ray etc to rule out other,
or include other possibilities , the only way
DM can truly be diagnosed is through necropsy. The spine is cross
sectioned and examined microscopically for changes
related to DM.
