The GSDC of Jackson, MS went in with the Mississippi State KC, the Brandon
KC, the Miss. Dachshund Club, and the Jackson Obedience Training Club and
put on a Responsible Dog Ownership Day.....Meet the breed was one of the
"events" included....Also had a CGC, a match, a parade of breeds, had
speakers, a kid's corner, rally demo, agility demo etc.....you get the
picture. It was a lot of fun.....You can get AKC education credit for
putting on a RDOD.......In the parade of breeds, GSD's were well represented
by half sisters.....MV Am & Can Sel CH Woodcliff's BB by Caretti, and Can
Sel CH Debric Caretti's Angelina CGC......"handled" by owners Debbie Scholl
and myself <VBG>.

An interesting subject came up on the pet-law list and I'll throw it out
here. What if there was a designated "Meet the Breed' "booth" at every
regional show? People designated from the club or just a volunteer to be
there with a dog or two, some printed information, a sign saying that
questions were welcome, under a tent/canopy? It wouldn't be very busy in
most cases, as not too many people wander into the specialty show areas, but
it would satisfy some of the new AKC education requirements and go a long
way to educate about GSDs.
Of course, having some information about the goals of HSUS and PETA,
information about anti-animal legislation there could be helpful, too:-)
Just an idea... and shouldn't we start having some new ones proposed?
