When the umbrella opened in his face, he startled but immediately looked at it for a short time, then totally ignored it. The evaluator said that is great - but - he has to touch it. I made him look back at the umbrella & told him to touch it. He looked at me like I was crazy but then raised his paw & gave it a good whack. Everyone laughed including the evaluator. BTW - he ended up with a near perfect total score.
