Hey Sue, Sorry to hear that about your Golden. But... see? You are supposed to clear eyes with CERF annually or at least every couple of years or so because many eye problems *do* develop over time. This is not supposed to be the case with OFA and hip dysplasia and that's why we wait until they are at least 2 years of age to get an "official" OFA reading. (You can have hips read before, but they won't be certified.) Hips can and sometimes do worsen from, say, good to fair or fair to dysplastic. But they won't change near as rapidly or as often as do eyes and the eye problems that can develop. And that's the main difference between CERF and OFA. One CERF certification, especially on a young dog, is often NOT good for the life of the dog. -- Karen C.
