I should have been more clear. The breeds that don't do herding often do other things, such as field trials, hunt tests, and even earthdog competitions. I should also point out that when I did the Australian Shepherd National (the first one that was independently held) the ring was the size of a GSD ring...it was outdoors, and when it rained, not a soul went running for cover.
