We donated several dogs to Guide Dogs For The Blind in the past and all of them
passed and
became Guide Dogs. At that time we also had a VERY large puppy male that they
placed with
a very tall man for a 'perfect match'. I always think of that when people
warn that our "big dogs"
will be the ruination of the Breed and cannot work.
We always went to watch the dogs we donated Graduate as it is very rewarding to
see these GSD
love their new job with their new blind owners. Then they came and took a
bitch for breeding to
set up their own breeding program " rather than depend on Breeders."
A few years later we went to visit with friends and I was absolutely shocked to
see the poor
temperament I saw in PUPPIES that they were raising. It was a huge
disappointment to me.
I am not at all surprised they will quit using GSD because in my opinion.....as

said...their failure is in their own breeding program. Not the German Shepherd
Dog Breed!

The school near CTH is Guide Dogs for the Blind, the group that put out the
notice.
When I still worked with the puppy raisers in Santa Rosa they had a Durango
son who they complained was going to be too large. Then suddenly they wanted
him for a client who was very tall and whose dog had just died. That Durango
son went through training in about 28 days and left with the very tall handler.
They spent a lot of time talking about how incredible the dog was. In all
honesty, he was able to go through quickly because the handler was expert and
was able to get right in with the pogram. They had quite a few CTH dogs or dogs
sired by CTH dogs in the program, but they got in some new "experts" who were
invested in doing their own breeding program and creating the "perfect" dog.
These days the "perfect" dog is a very different beast fom what was "perfect"
when the programs started. Ruth

and he made it. I know Cappy and Gloria got 3 or 4 Blues when they bred to
Judd and they sent them
to the guide dog school in CA. (getting old cannot remember the name) and I
never heard they did
not make it.This is pretty disgraceful. First Lady of The Seeing Eye was
about 3/4 GSD and what
a wonderful animal she was.
We had better take notice of this and not just blow it off. Need more info.
