Cynthia The points you make are a big disussion between a couple of friends of mine and myself. I agree, people are tired of paying huge money for a glorified puppy match. I myself am still a believer and active participant in them though, I like seeing what the dogs out there are producing. With that being said though, I totally understand why we are loosing attendance and participation all across the board. As has been stated by many in various posts, there are MANY factors for this, not just one. I hope that people will participate and voice ideas, although some will not do it due to the back lash it creates at times. I guess over the years I've developed a tougher skin, but these posts is a great example. The emotions run strong and then misunderstandings and jumping to conclusions happens. I think that is why a lot of people don't post, they don't want the repercussions of such discussions. Back to what you are saying. The other venues give a greater opportunity for "anyone" that is willing to spend the time and work with their dog to get results. I think we will even see a greater increase then currently in the UKC & German Style shows due to being able to show your own dog and place and win. As I said in previous posts, there are no immediate and easy answers, and hopefully people will agree to disagree without being crucified for having difference of opinions. Thanks for voicing yours. First off, the days where a futurity would keep a regional club afloat until the next go round are gone. Look at the entries! Terrible. We had the futurity 2 years ago and it was a struggle to stay afloat...and I think we actually lost money. Fortunately my club is fiscally sound for now. Personally, I think that people are sick and tired of the dogs that they are seeing in the American show ring. Look at the attendance and participation in WDA, SUSA, DVG etc. shows. It is putting our specialties to shame and if breeders are smart, they will start to ask why. (and lsiten when they are told). Cynthia --- On Wed, 4/7/10, Chris S. Over the years I have traveled to several far away futurities, as far as NM a few years back. The only ones I've never attended is the East Coast and West Coast ones. As I stated in another post, there is NO easy answer and I totaly sympathize with people driving great distances, been there and done it myself several times!!! There used to be only 6 Regions, now there are 9. I was just throwing out some thoughts, and just as the great debate on National Location, there will never be a perfect and pleasing everyone answer. If Chris - the regions that have low numbers are the ones in the West were people have to drive great distances to reac h a show. If you eliminate their region,l numbers will continue to decline, because they will not enter anywhere. Also, so far, futurities do not loose money. The shows with them are usually large also. The income from a Futurity weekend keeps many clubs operating. I simply do not understand why you want to deprive isolated regions. They still have excellent dogs. I was in New Mexico.
