In the first place, what freakin business it of ANYONE's how many dogs you
have, whether or not you "bred" them or if they live in the house or
not???????????? A hoarder of GSD's?? what does that mean anyway?, you should
have laughed in her/his face and told them when they start paying the bills for
you and your family, maybe just maybe they will be entitled to an opinion
regarding what or how or who you live with. I have 4 and I have plans for one
more, so put me down as a hoarder as well. OMGosh I so hope I get to meet this
person!!!!!!! you take excellent care of your dogs, they live well and are
happy,so enjoy them and chalk that person up to the "iffn I cain't be stupid
all the time Lord, please at least let me say sumthin stupid every day, amen"
and don't let them waste another minute of your time.
And by the way, that person had to have bought at least one dog!
Take heart Paulette, if it weren't for stupid mean people we wouldn't know how
lucky we are to have kind smart and funny people in our life who love us!

At a recent Specialty show and Futurity/Maturity, I was confronted by a
breeder" who implied that I am a hoarder.
y husband and I live on 3.5 fenced acres and have 5 GSD's. (Soon to be 4 as
ne is dying of cancer.) We did have 6 dogs, but lost one a few weeks ago. Our
ogs get the very best of care. My husband and I have not taken a vacation in
ver 15 years because we can not take *all* the dogs with us. Our dogs are
VERYTHING to us. They are our WORLD.
I also co-own 2 German GSD's with my partner and they live with her as she has
onderful kennels. Generally, Germans do not make good house dogs, although I
o have one who lives with me. I also co-bred and co-own a young bitch who is
ust starting her show career. (We leased her dam.) She too lives with my
artner.
Does this make me a hoarder? How many dogs does one have to own before they
are
onsidered a hoarder? 4? 7? 10? 20?
This same person also made the pointed statement, "I don't buy dogs, I breed
hem." Well, I've owned GSD's for 47 years and fairly recently decided to show
nd breed. Of course, I bought a bitch. She developed severe heart problems
nd died. I bought another bitch. She developed uncontrollable epilepsy and
ied. I bought another bitch. She developed "closed" pyo and underwent an
mergency spay at 13 months. I bought another bitch. She developed cancer at
0 months of age and is dying. We have practically given the NC State Vet
chool enough money to begin construction on a new wing. BTW, *everyone* of
hese bitches were/are from *totally different* lines.
erhaps I'm wrong, but how can one become a breeder without a bitch to breed?
f somewhere down the road, I search for a good brood bitch or a young
how/breeding prospect, will this make me a collector? Am I a collector because
didn't go ahead and breed the bitches that developed terrible health problems?
admit I have made a big mistake.......I have been too trusting and naive in
haring anything about my dogs and my plans.
Perhaps I really am a hoarder and/or a collector, but I am *not* a quitter.

Sorry to vent on the List. I rarely do so, but this is the kind of stuff that
hould be shared as it demonstrates why some newbies walk away.
