I hate to be logical, (shut up Paul) but girls used to wear skirts, and
didn't want to swing a leg up over a bar. At first all bikes were girl bikes,
but then they started to make them ridged with the bar in the middle for us
manly men types.
Or, maybe it is a plot from sadistic manufacturers. Either one is probably
the truth.
