When I adopted my mutt, Bo, he bit every one of the Hooligans, both old =
and young, and mauled my arm within the first 48 hours I had him. I sou=
ght help everywhere including getting suggestions from members of this l=
ist. We immediately started obedience, NILIF, etc. Bo and I worked ver=
y hard and over the months his aggressive tendencies subsided a lot but =
he wasn't perfect. I took him to a local Dog Whisperer here in Ocala an=
d I asked her to stress to him how important it was that he stop being a=
ggressive and explain to him why - if he ever bit another human being I'=
d have to put him down. I know this sounds incredible, but after that h=
e did a 360 - he became almost perfect. I always had him muzzled when a=
vet or groomer was working with him only because I wanted to protect hi=
m in case something happened that might cause him to bite.
Another interesting thing was I asked the Whisperer what mix Bo was and =
she said he was part coyote. After that, whenever I asked him if he was=
part this breed or that breed he just sat there, but when I asked him i=
f his mama was a coyote he'd get up and come over wagging his tail - sou=
nds weird but it really happened. No, he didn't look anything like a co=
yote.
Bo went to the Bridge this past November from cancer of the spleen and l=
iver and I really miss him. He was about 10 to 13 years old, I only had=
him since 2002 and he really left a hole in my heart.

. The other thing I find amazing is that he runs 37 (give or take) dogs=
together in one giant yard.....What's even more amazing is the types of=
dogs that he runs together, Rotts, GSD's, Pit Bulls then he has the int=
ermitent toy breed...last week I saw an Italian Greyhound in the bunch. =
Pretty amazing and it really does show that people are the problem....n=
ot the dogs.

I know not everyone gets cable TV, but a few weeks ago on the National G=
eographic channel they had a marathon (several hours) of "The Dog Whispe=
rer". I was really impressed with how he handled dogs, especially aggres=
sive ones. I watched today as he dealt with an akita and her mixed breed=
son that a couple had rescued who were dog aggressive and the akita wou=
ldn't let the owner brush her. Cesar's approach was all about being the =
pack leader, how you teach the dog that your are the dominant one. Very =
interesting! Even better, his methods seemed to work very well. Has anyo=
ne else seen the show? =
