How much do you want registration fees to eventually go to? I think having a
competitive performance venue for mixed breeds could be very positive. It
would encourage people to do things with their dogs and as they got involved,
they
might decide to check out conformation as well and get a purebred to show and
become active, involved show people. Most of us started out somewhere in life
with a stray that turned up or a mixed breed dog that was given to us that we
loved like life itself. Mine was a mixed fox terrier named Chubby that I got
when i was a year old and he was my heart until he died when I was 11. I
thought my life was over. I actually got in a knock-down, drag-out, good
old-fashioned fist-fight with a neighbor girl down the street who referred to
him as a
'mutt' shortly after he'd died.
I won, too. :-) Informed her NOBODY talked bad about my dog - alive or dead !
that dog was my start on where I am today. I'd have taken him anywhere with
pride and I'd have deen devastated if he'd been snubbed as being less than
perfect.
So, why not have performance venues available to mixed breeds and encourage
people to move from there into the world of purebred dogs? And be careful,
there's lots of little girls out there who love their mixed-breed dogs ;-)
