After 12 years of continuous duty I changed both sail cover and bimini this
spring. I probably should have done it a couple of years ago for cosmetic
reasons but they were still working well. I changed the mainsail cover because
it was starting to rot mid-boom an inch or so from the zipper; and the bimini
because the edges were starting to fray (and I wanted to have both the same
color: Captain Navy, very smart). Don't save on the material, go for Sunbrella
or equivalent.

Sail makers will do it as well as some canvas shops. Our cover seems to be
the thing that takes the most abuse on the boat. So we do a lot of repairs
till we cave in and take it to a place to make major repairs.
A trick to saving the plastic zipper from sun damage is to sew a 2 inch flap
the full length of the zipper that will lay over it. (These zippers still
fail too early and so it would be nice for other's input on this)
It's a time to re-think the design of your bag by looking at dozens of other
boats for ideas to make yours even better.
