I tell every officer I am stopped this phrased. I am required by law to inform
you I am a concealed weapon holder and I am armed and yes I have a permit
officer what do you need me to do that will stop them from any chatter about
any kind of crap they want to give you but once you say I am informed by law to
inquire to tell you they automatically stop and listen to you

I wait to hand my CWP to an officer when I hand him my DL. If an officer asks
about weapons before I hand him my DL and CWP I answer that I have a CWP and
yes, I do have a firearm. I then wait for their reply before saying or doing
anything else.
That approach must keep the tension down because I have not had a bad
interaction with LEO based on my firearm. Way back when CWPs were first
available a young guy asked why I felt the need to carry a firearm. Suffice
it to say my answer now would be different. But still, that was the low point
in my interactions. Yes, twice officers in SC have asked for my firearm. But
that was pretty low key and while I didn't like handing over my firearm the
interaction wasn't bad. I even had one officer thank me for carrying. After
he had pulled me over for speeding. And he only gave me a warning.
I'm not suggesting anyone here deserved bad treatment for any reason.
Probably I have just gotten reasonable officers.
I have actually had more bad treatment when I wasn't armed and this little
kid, and eventually his superior, weren't happy I wasn't rolling over for
them. The "discussion" was really a 4th Amendment discussion rather than a
2nd. I told him where i was going wasn't an issue. Even in that I wish I
hadn't matched the officer's "authoritative tone" and then loud tone. Which I
did each step he escalated. I wish I had just blinked and talked in a regular
tone. Let just him be the ass if he wants to be.

I was pulled from my vehicle with my family still inside the vehicle. I was
spread eagled against the vehicle by the officer. I was forced to wait in
that position until backup arrived. What was even scarier was when the
officer wanted to stick his hand inside my pants to take my weapon out of my
ThunderWear holster.

Every time LEOs have stopped me, I say "I am a CWP holder and I am carrying a

the LEO pulling his weapon and pointing it at me (during a traffic stop for
40 in a 35 zone). I have friends that are cops, I have friends that are very
anti-cop. They all agree with Robert on this point, the less interaction the
better.

And, the LEO will need to disarm you for his protection while he checks to
make sure you have proper training credentials. Then, you might end up like
the poor black man who had a CWP and was stopped by the police. He informed
the officer he had a CWP as he was required to do under the law. He was
told to show his permit by the LEO. When he reached for his wallet in his
back pocket, the LEO shot and killed him. The less interaction I have with
police, the better it is for me.

I did not read the bill......Open carry "with training" implies that there
will be a training and permitting (or certification) process. This is a
legally problematic area, because it gives cops the right to stop (and
probably search) anyone if they are open carrying, under the reason that you
might be breaking the law. The requirement for a permit for open carry is
both wrong and a legal problem for those trying to exercise it.

Who screwed us over on open carry and let them know you will be supporting

Given the current republican 'super-majority' in the state legislature this
kind of inaction is f***ing inexcusable.
