Thanks for doing that Steve. Looking forward! Personally (are we allowed
"personally" on this site?) I think it's the best star party ever--the sky, the
ambiance, the good company, the wildlife (non-human type), flora with and
without thorns, the cool fresh air, the geology, the day & night photo ops,
the peace and quiet, The Four Tenor SACS snoring in perfect jazztime to Cricket
& Owl improvisation, the interesting constellation maps of chigger bites around
the ankles.....Ahhhhh, I think 5MM has arrived as thee star party--I mean
personally speaking I'd give it the 10 Stars.

Darrell,
As for your accessability question, Forest Road 229 is very well maintained.
Karen and I have been up there (not at the meadow itself, but using 229 to
access other forest roads) numerous times during the monsoon season and we have
not had any issues with FR 229 (that is until you get about 3 miles west of
5MM). Like last year, you should be fine with your 5th wheel.
BTW, Karen and I were in the general area (15 miles south of 5MM) in
mid-April and the forest roads were dry and in relatively good shape. Only a
few pockets of snow were seen.
We will be there 5/29 - 6/1. Three nights of bliss.

Quick question about 5MM accessibility:
I was at 5MM last September with a 30ft 5th wheel and had absolutely no
trouble getting in. The "well-maintained" comment about the 5 mile dirt road
(FR 229) was spot on for that trip.
My question is "Does this well-maintained status stay consistent
year-to-year and month-to-month? I'd hate to drag that trailer up there and
find things washed out and un-repaired from the snowy winter.

It is a wealth of information you will need to stay warm and safe including
rules given to us by the ranger.
I would be happy to assist anyone who has not been there before with
directions based on the Garmin route. Just to enforce what Peter has said the
Stonman Lake Rd is NOT PASSABLE except by an experienced 4X4 driver. Please use
the directions that Steve has given and your family car will have no trouble
accessing the site.

It is definitely not too early to begin considering the upcoming 5MM
excursion.
Will folks be making a 3, 4 or even a 5-day pilgrimage? I see that
moonrise will be between ~0100 and ~0230 Wednesday through Saturday 5/28-5/31.
I'd be willing to go up on either Wednesday or Thursday if I thought
there would be others on site.
Looking forward to the outing (sky willing).
