Just so everyone is clear, I wasn't forwarding this message suggesting we step
in and help. Just so you all know, I have already TRIED to do that for several
ARF fosters bc I felt sorry for both foster and dog and none were successful. I
still have several replies from Greta saying she was "addressing it" and of
course it went nowhere (well several they just euthanized if you consider that
addressing the issue).

I was merely giving the HS a glimpse of the knowledge I have had for 2 years.
This is why when Greta found out I was going to take over HS rescue and apply
for a DOA shelter license and approached me to do it for ARF instead of RFHS, I
nicely said "thank you but I will do RFHS but will help ARF in any way I can".
It was after that when I realized that ARF was trying to save every single dog
(not pulled by another rescue) out of FCAC and every OTI who didn't contact the
HS. No rescue anywhere around here has the physical and financial capabilities
to take on and save every In Need Floyd Co animal and FCAC Death Row Animal.
Period. It's not possible. Any attempts would fail and with ARF it became all
their fosters in their care (and farmed out everywhere paying for board) who
were not being taken care of. Some were fixed (thank you RFHS even though
certain people still do not admit this) but none were on flea or HW
preventative and things of that nature. Most fell into what Dick described
earlier which is typical when there are another 20-40 EVERY WEEK that are about
to die. It's sad. There is never a break...

When I worked with Gail (Posey Shelter), we dealt with the same thing. We would
try to save as many as we could every week. I remember us pulling as many as 53
one week. Did they still euthanize that week? Yup! There's just no way to save
them all...

So I learned the hard way to deal with the pain and do what is WITHIN my
power...be the best rescue I can be. Make sure the animals under my care are
always completely vetted, on monthly HW and flea prevention, housebroken/crate
trained/leads/knows basic commands and everything else that makes them highly
adoptable. I spend hours on photo shoots for every dog in my care to attempt to
get 3 great pictures for PetFinder. I write great bios describing how wonderful
the dog is (now that we put all this work into him and made him highly
adoptable). I have thousands of dollars of damaged "insert item here" bc I have
to be the person to train the chewing, pottying, digging, etc out of the dog.
People don't adopt problem dogs (not the kind of adopters I seek out) so our
house/property is constantly being destroyed by these dogs while they learn
proper manners.

I know the numbers that I can save are small in comparison to some rescues who
are either transferring them all to someone else, sticking them all in boarding
or who have tons of fosters...however I do what I can with what I have (Molly
fosters 2 and I have all the rest). Quality of care and quality of adopters (is
that dog really being placed in a forever home or is it just a place where they
may give that dog up due to "insert reason here" in the future)...those 2
qualities speak volume to me. I can honestly say I have placed hundreds of dogs
and very few came back...and the few who did, I immediately took them back in
and made every attempt to place them better next time. RFHS fosters are in no
way a revolving door where pets are being adopted out but returned at some
point. With the exception of the ones I transferred to Atlanta Humane Society,
a highly reputable organization, I personally hand pick and see where these
dogs end up. There is never a question of what actually happens to them.

So to get back to topic, I do not want to have anything to do with ARF -
especially taking over ARF dogs who they are responsible for. Allison Watters
and Nancy Knight have already came forward and said that Claws & Paws will pay
for treatment and I have already spoken with Traci about the most inexpensive
vet to use. Whether the dog will live through treatment after having 2 years of
neglect (HW does significant damage to heart and lungs), I do not know. I
pulled a dog from AC a month ago and she died on me one week after treatment
and this dog is much worse than her.

I feel that ARF has had every opportunity to take proper care of these animals.
By their own word, they have announced massive amounts of money their
fundraisers have pulled in. If I didn't have the fosters or financial ability
to take proper care of the ones already in my program, I would never pull more.
It's a hard lesson that every rescue person has to learn the hard way...what
your limitations are. I just want to make everyone aware that we need to steer
clear of this group. It's not something we want to be a part of in any way.

Hope that helps to clarify.
