Thanks Carlos, I appreciate my hypotheses being corrected. You get a lot of
useful information from Prochnow and other sources; I cannot understand the
German and online translations do not give reliable information. It is a shame
that he only translated Report 1 bit that must have been a lot of work anyway.

Rollei X Act1 camera was manufactured from October 1998 and
X Act2 from February 1999; the 4560 magazine and its accesories were
manufactured from October 1996. The 4560 magazine patent ( Hans Júrgen Hartung
had the idea and patented it for Rollei; P DE4433656) and comments about it say
it was made for the 6000 system originally ( Report pages 62-1286 and
62-1287).; it was used for the X Act camers afterward. The Report V does not
mention the 35mm rotating magazine up to I could read it. Your 35mm magazine is
rare indeed; perhaps they were made as prototypes only.
The 6008i, and 6001 and 6003 Professional cameras made before October 1996 need
the factory service or other technical service to adapt the body to receive the
4560 magazine with the adapter, perhaps it could also be done for the SLX, 6002
and 6006 as you suggest. Anyway, if the 6008i has a 3 as third digit in the SN
and the 6001/6003 a 2 as third digit in the SN, they are already prepared to
receive the 4560 Magazine. The 6008 Integral 2 and 6008 AF can use the 4560
Magazine with the Adapter and the Hy6 can use it without the adapter; these
cameras were made after the Report V was written and they could have a diffeent
digit for the technical features, of course.

I think the 4560 magazine was probably produced for the X-Act. The X-Act was
designed for use with digital backs and because there was no built in motor
wind within the bellows camera, if required, a film magazine would have to have
it's own motor wind built in. To make this possible in the restricted space,
the frame size had to be maximum 6x5.5 . The back would later have been fitted
to the 6008i. I would guess that the earlier cameras had a fixed film gate
(fixed by four screws - as with the SLX and 6002/6006) and the later ones had a
user removable clip in one. The modification would be relatively easy. I think
that by removing the fixed film gate, the 4560 back could be fitted to the SLX
and 6002/6006 provided the accessory socket on the side of the cameras had the
correct connections, and power output capability too. A digital back could
probably be used on those cameras too if the film gate was removed; the trigger
would be from the flash sync socket. Even with a 6008i, a Phase One digital
back has to be activated before the shutter is released. The 6008AF could do
that automatically. I do not know about a Sinar back with cameras other than
the 6008AF. I have seen a 6008i with Sinar back on Ebay with no comment as to
whether the back has to be activated first.
I have modified a 6000 series 6x6 film back to enable manual wind for use on my
X-Act. I have a Rodenstock f4.5 35mm Apo Grandagon for super wide angle shots
which makes use of the 6x6 format better than the 6x4.5.
Rollei also produced a 35mm rotating back based on the 4560 - the only
difference other than the film holder, is the maximum number of frames on the
LCD and the addition of the automatic film rewind. Not many were produced and I
do not think Prochnow mentions them. I have both versions.

The 4560 rotating magazine with motor can be used with the adapter
(the adapter was delivered from factory) for the 6008 Integral Index 3, and
6001 and 6003 Professional Index 2. The Index is the third digit in the coded
Rollei serial numbers. Older cameras could be adapted to use the 4560 Magazine
at the factory service (data from Prochnow's Rollei Report V), I think it could
still be done there. .
:The item I mentioned in my previous post is this Magazine, the
rotating 4560 with motor and adapter. There were dedicated 4,5x6 magazines 120
and 220 for the 6006 and similars generic "6000 magazines"; I did not read
about them.

The 4560 magazine is a rotatable magazine (for both portrait and landscape)
which requires an adapter back to fit on the camera. It will only fit on the
6000 series cameras which have a removable film gate such as the 6008i. I do
not know if the 6003 Professional, 6008 Professional and 6008E have a removable
film gate.
The magazine has its own wind motor and the film plane is too large to fit into
the standard 6000 film gate so the gate has to be removed so the 4560 film can
be pushed to the camera film plane when the laminar slide is withdrawn. The
same movement as with a standard magazine when the laminar slide is withdrawn.
The film gate has to be removed to fit a digital back for the same reasons.
If you buy a 6008 with 4560 magazine, you must make sure the film gate is
included otherwise you will not be able to use a 6x6 magazine - be warned - a
replacement gate will probably be unobtainable.
Likewise for an X-act camera, no removable film gate no 6x6 magazine.
The 645 film magazine can only take landscape images unless the camera is
rotated on its side.
Using SLX, 6003 and 6006 film backs and magazines on later cameras is possible
but another story.

There is a 4560 magazin for the 6000 system including the 6008 right now in the
auction site, look for the item 183046157324 ; it costs $750, at least it's
cheaper than $ 2500. The 645 and 6x7 medium formats were options to handle the
image scale to edit and to compose magazines, newspapers and the like in the
analog era, keepong the subject proportions and avoiding the image cropping
most of the times. I think the 6x6 format is great to frame images too; if I
need the 645 for some reason, I use the scanner adjustment or the enlarger
mask or print cut.

Does anybody know if this magazine is available anywhere for the 6008 series?
I always wanted one, but I could not find it anywhere. Well, I found it one
place, but they wanted $2500, and that means that the piece is technically
unobtainable. I never understood why shoot 645 format, but only in landscape.
This was a “hot” format for modelling and fashion photography, but in those
worlds, wouldn’t portrait be more useful?

Thanks John - you're exactly right; was easily able to rotate the claws, and it
works fine again! I'm always a bit nervous about trying things like this -
there's so many interlocks with all the mechanical logic, never know when you
are pressing against logic versus against spring pressure!

claw outwards. There is a reasonable amount of spring pressure to overcome but
they just rotate. They are easier to press in because the spring works to keep

I have no idea why one should have tripped but it's fine now.
Just as a matter of interest, I have the 35mm version of that magazine too.
Very few were made. I hoped I would be able to adapt it to take photos 60mm
wide but unfortunately, the way it's constructed that's not possible.

Wondering if anyone can give me any advice / pointers before I send this in for

I have a 4560 Magazine - this is the 645 magazine for the Rollei system, can be
mounted to the receiver in either landscape or portrait orientation - that
refuses to mount up to the receiver. On closer inspection, the two 'claws' on
the magazine that grab the pins on the receiver are in retracted, mounted,
position and I can't seem to find a way to release them. The receiver has the
magazine release button (which seems to work by magic, as there is no aparent
movement at the magazine interface - so maybe magnets?), but I can't find any
way to get the magazine 'claws' to flip back to unmounted position. I know the
magazine has dismount lockout via slide position detection, but can't seem to
find any way to get the slide to put the magazine into unmounted mode.
I have a second 4560 that works flawlessly on the receiver, so I know the
problem is definitely with the malfunctioning 4560, and not a receiver problem.
I use these magazines with an XACT-2; have never tried the receiver on a 6008,
etc., but should be the same.
Any help would be greatly appreciated; thanks in advance!
