I have a friend who cannot afford the $200 warranty needed to send his Braille 'n Speak Scholar to Freedom Scientific for repairs. He's doing well just to put food on the table at this point. So I'm attempting to diagnose the problem and see what can be done to correct it short of sending the unit in--which is not happening. The battery in the unit is completely dead--so finding out the make and model of the Braille 'n Speak battery would be a great help. When the unit is plugged in, it works for about 15 seconds, then it stops working. Unfortunately due to transportation issues, I can't get to the unit to physically determine what's going on for quite some time. If someone could please give me some direction on next steps, I would really appreciate it.
