Considering that "requiring a connected HDMI monitor and forcing audio
through the monitor's speakers" sounds like the kind of bug the RasPi
Foundation would insist is a feature if anyone on this list bothered
to report it, I have to ask:
Do their exist HDMI dongles that will trick the Pi into thinking an
HDMI monitor is connected while forwarding the HDMI audio to a 3.5mm
audio jack? I'm also thinking it might be a decent workaround to the
Pi 400's lack of a 3.5mm jack without having to sacrifice a USB port
or deal with the headaches of bluetooth.
Admittedly, once I can get my hands on a Pi 4, I'll probably
ultimately opt for using a raspbian lite image and building up to a
usable desktop, but it would be nice to at least try using the stock
desktop without needing to invest in a piece of hardware I have no use
for and which probably costs more than the Pi and everything I need
for it but don't already have put together.
