Howard, you mention at the bottom that the sites suggested by Kron were far apart. I'll be staying in Tecopa Hot Springs which is just outside the south east end of the park near Shoshone. How far would that be to Furnace Creek and StovePipe Wells,

Bogdan, it is about 70 miles from Tecopa Hot Springs to Furnace Creek (going 127 to 178 and up through Badwater) Longer if 127 to Death Valley Junction and then west on 190. About 30 mi from DV Junction to Furnace Creek.

From Furnace Creek - Badwater is about 15 mi, Dante's View about 20 mi and Zabriski Point is just a few miles. Stovepipe Wells Village is about 25 miles from Furnace Creek - nice big dunes at Stovepipe wells.

From where 190, 267, and 374 meet (about 20 mi N of Furnace Creek) Beatty NV and Rhyolite are about 30 and 25 miles east. From the same point it is 35 miles to the North Entry Station - 5 miles from Scotty's Castle and 5 miles to Ubehebe Crater. Racetrack Valley Road is 28 miles one way from Ubehebe Crater Road.

Fuel is available at Furnace Creek, Stovepipe Wells Village and Scotty's Castle.

One good topo map is the _Death Valley National Park_ map published by National Geographic and Trails Illustrated. ISBN 0-925873-68-3. Trails Illustrated www.colorado.com/trails . Copies of the map should be available in the park visitors center - probably on Amazon etc.
