I went poking around freelists and found that there's also one for color
analog.
Pure-silver is described as for "silver-based photography".
I'm assuming the lab prints that were asked about will also be analog. In the
past these exchanges have always been darkroom prints made by the photographers
who were participating and I didn't quite know what to say when I was asked if
lab prints were allowed. I emailed the admins and we concluded that I we
wouldn't exclude someone in this exchange because they can't get into the dark
room. I'm assuming (and maybe I shouldn't do that) the lab uses traditional
printing methods. Otherwise that would be a hybrid print, is that right?
The thing I came to pure silver for in the beginning was (and still is) because
it's a community of film photographers with more darkroom experience and
knowledge than I, and who can help me grow and improve my craft.
I'm new, obviously, organizing the exchange, but I really hope to retain the
black and white film and darkroom element. I believe apug has a hybrid section
and I'm sure there are lots of
forums for color. This one is described as "silver-based".
I look forward to receiving prints from you guys. That's always such a treat!
Let's plan to have prints mailed by APRIL 30.
Here's who I have listed as participants so far. Please let me know if I've
missed someone.

Well is this limited to black and white prints, or are analog color prints
going to be allowed. If so a lot would print black and white at home, but
color would often be sent to the lab.

Hi Mike,
I have searched and searched for an email I received asking if lab prints
were acceptable, and I can't find it. Was it from you? I will say yes,
please join in with us. I'm not aware that we've ever had lab prints
before but if it doesn't work for somebody to get in the darkroom, well, I
just don't see that as a reason to exclude.

Janet, count me in. Personally, I never go into the darkroom unless I'm
printing 30x40; but I will deign to make an exception. It sounds like
loads of fun. :) Mike Healy

The reason I suggested postcards is because there's no need for a large
envelope, gathering cardboard or whatever to protect the print, and the
greater postage. AND I sort of enjoy printing small, but that's just
me. And like has been stated, for people outside the US it can get
pretty pricey mailing large, so how about on this go if we do
postcards… Unless that means you have to go out and buy for the cards.
So I guess the question is really, do you guys have postcard paper for
the darkroom? If you don't, and if you don't want to buy it (because we
know that no darkroom paper is cheap!) Then we can just say print
whatever size you want. You guys who like to print large, are you going
to feel slighted if you receive a small print?
Any ideas for time allowed for a "mail it out by..." date? Let's see
if we can gather some more people to participate. I've never organized
one of these exchanges here so have mercy if I'm awkward, and if you've
done it before feel free to tell me a better way. If you email me your
mailing address I will compile a list to send back to each contributor.
And what else am I not thinking of?

I’d like to participate, but with smaller prints. Mailing out of
Ireland can be expensive.

I think that is individual judgement. I also like large prints but
have made lots of smaller ones that I thought were pleasing. By
smaller I mean 5x7 maximum. Again, I think it depends on one's
judgement and probably subject. Some things must be large.

Janet, et al,
I'd prefer larger prints, because i've always thought that anything
smaller than 11 X 14 just isn't worth the trouble of going into the
darkroom. What do others think?

Gosh, it's been a long time since we've done a print
exchange! Is anybody up for another? It would be easier for
me if we could limit the number to 10. What do you think? Is
anyone willing to take it on? And I think doing a postcard
would simplify it, certainly would be easier to mail out. I'm
willing to do a larger print if that's what you all prefer.
Thoughts?
