I’ve found asking if they have any problems with me putting the issue up on my
customer support blog worked wonders. Often what seems like a big impersonal
company can be a much smaller operation than it looks, especially in a field
like ours. In this case, the smaller operation may be the Chemical sales
department, and the line is, would establishing a poor reputation for customer
support in this area, impact on sales in the more lucrative end of the Business?
Copying someone in some other part of the organisation, (even if its just as
“undisclosed recipients”), can also help, as can numbering your correspondence,
as if you might have to refer to it in a future court action. The last is a tip
given to be by someone working in the claims department of a large insurance
company.
If nothing else, embarking on this type or response can burn off some of the
bile.
Best regards,

DEAR JANET,
I think it was G. Gordon Liddy who said, "One the way over the

intransigence on a list with (how many???) members who are photographers who
also buy materials and then threaten to mention their behavior on any photo
social media lists that you follow. Ask them how much they will lose if you
drive away ONE customer, let alone the many who have already read this email.
I am EXTREMELY appreciative of good service to the point that I
will sometimes pay a little extra for things just to get the good service BUT I
am TOTALLY intolerant of bad service! If I do not receive satisfaction when I
speak to management, I go postal on social media. MAHN, you should see how
quickly the vice presidents of marketing call me personally, apologize, and fix
the mess!!!
Try it! You'll like it!!!
CHEERS!

I am so angry! I finally got in touch with a human at Unique Photo. When I
placed the order for the chemicals nobody told me to expect the developer to be
dark brown, cannot see through it as I'm developing, as in *I don't want it*.
They want me to ship what's remaining back to them at my expense and give
credit for what I haven't opened only - not for what I dumped. The first batch
I mixed I left standing because obviously I thought something was wrong with
it. It took me a good handful of hours to figure out what was going on and
that… Well they say I could have used it. Forgive me for saying this, if my mom
was alive she would want to pop my mouth but their customer care is pissy!
It's not like I'll be out enough $$$ to break my back. I hate that don't care
enough to do the right thing by their customers!
I won't be buying from them again though that is no threat since the amount
that I use is small comparatively.

Thanks, Chauncey. I actually tried it awhile back, but (usually split bath with
the old version of dektol) LPD is the only developer I’ve found that I really
like for current papers. I do add a little glycin though... (Loved 130 on older
papers, just not so much for current. But may be worth retesting once
polywarmtone 2 is available.)
Great to know about storing glycin!!
Thanks so much:)

You might try the formula for Ansco 130. It was my standard developer for my
production from early 90s until the end of commercial printing in around 2014.
Similar to dektol.
130 has been my print developer for more than 20 years. It does get dark with
use, quite dark with a lot of use, but the working mix will last for many
months, and the full strength mixed for more than a year. I mix 2 liters and
put it into 500ml dark bottles and mix 1 liter of 1:1 working solution. One
time I had occasion to compare it with Ilford Multigrade Developer and found
that the 130 gave much better separation of mid-tones. I keep bulk glycin
stored in the freezer, and it will last for years. It works beautifully on
silver-chloride papers like AZO/Lodima.
