   Whoever tried it is lucky. The dark brown is typical of oxidized hydroquinone, it may also have a fishy odor. If there are many containers showing up its a sign that the manufacturer has a problem with packaging it.
   Some developers are slightly colored after mixing, D-76 for instance, but the color should  be very slight and the powders should not be brown.
