I mentioned a blue-black developer, Kodak D-73. Here it is. I discovered its not in the 1946 edition of the "Photo Lab Index" so went back to an older Kodak book. This is for comparison to other paper developer formulas. I should also note that in making comparisons one should figure the concentration of the ingredients in the _working_ solutions.
Kodak D-73 Blue-Black developer for Paper.
Stock Solution
Water, at about 125F or 52C............ 500.0 ml
Elon (Metol)..............................2.8 grams
Sodium sulfite, desiccated.............. 40.0 grams
Hydroquinone............................ 10.8 grams
Sodium carbonate, desiccated............ 75.0 grams
Potassium bromide........................ 0.8 grams
Cold water to make....................... 1.0 liter
For use dilute 1 part stock to 2 parts water.
The book from which I got this is dated 1938. I have a somewhat earlier Kodak chemistry book dated 1934 which has this formula but where the bromide is given as the quantity of a 10% solution. I think that was to make it easier to measure out small amounts.
Kodak seems to have liked the D-72 formula, its given not only for general paper development but also for press films and lantern slides.
