There's more in a neg than we, OK I, can get onto silver paper. Short of
contrast masks and so on when printing in the darkroom, scanning from your negs
gave you the most info possible to work with.

You may be right but I scanned all my 8X10 negs (over 100) for my
book, BARBADOS CHATTEL HOUSES (avail on Amazon.com), with my Epson V750 Pro
and the image quality in the book has received high compliments from
photographers and photo critics alike.

I find I get the best results by scanning the silver
analog print.
Scanners aren't made for scanning black and white
negatives with silver grains in them - they want to
see color negative or color slide film. They will
do black and white as a 'marketing claim', but
IMO they do a poor job of it. Of course one man's
'poor' is another man's 'excellent'.
