I puzzled over that too. The "Examples" were not there as a survey of prior
art (TTBOMK).
It may be Kodak was poisoning the well. The other example methods couldn't be
patented now that they had been revealed in open literature. Or maybe they
were vestiges of rejected claims - "If we can't have it, nobody will."
Or maybe Henn was using the patent office as a publisher - in the spirit of
advancing the art - and claims be damned.
Science is published in journals. Engineering is published in patents.
Publishing being the real purpose of patents.
