The Balcar flash heads have the same proportioonal modeling
light. Having a meter that can measure the modeling light
is desirable.

I use a Gossen Luna Pro F light meter for flash (White Lightning
WL-10000). Mostly in incident mode.
But note:
1.) I rarely use studio flash since I have no studio. I rarely use flash
at all. It works fine for me. I have never used any other flash meter,
so I cannot compare.
2.) For 4x5, I normally use a Zone VI modified Pentax digital spot
meter. It does not meter flash.
3.) One thing about the White Lightning flash units is that the modeling
lights are proportional to the flash output, so you can pretty much see
the lighting you are going to get, and, furthermore, they say you can
measure the light modeling light with a non flash meter, apply a simple
formula, and calculate the exposure that way. In black-and-white, I
found that works pretty well.
