Ya, unless you get some type of automated installer Sql 2008 makes you walk through several Windows chocked full of dynamic settings that most people never heard of and that don't work at all well with a screen reader. One mistake and you have a mess. I hate the new installation system so once I have it in place I just leave it alone. Some of the games I play for fun use the normal installer like that, had to update 6 with a server switch. Glad I'm safe dumping the 05 as it was never really used anything so am losing nothing with it. ----- Original Message ----- From: RicksPlace To: programmingblind@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Saturday, May 22, 2010 4:03 PM Subject: Re: UnInstalling Sql Server Warning OH, if it was Sql Server 2005 you are in luck. First it was light years simpler to install, it used defaults and just basically plopped in place much like other software. Also, Uninstalling it was not nearly as bad and even if it is not perfect I don't think it will impact your install of Sql Server 2008 when you decide to do that. I will try and have tutorials, actually I already have some, about dodownloading and installing Sql Server 2008 that another programmer managed to walk through and worked for both of us. But, before you try it talk to me so we can get it right the first time. You will not want to do it again - grin! I think I was going to try tutorials from blindgeeks, but the Jaws scripts were still kind of beta then. ----- Original Message ----- From: RicksPlace To: programmingblind@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Saturday, May 22, 2010 12:18 PM Subject: Re: UnInstalling Sql Server Warning Well, in the future you are better off to make a Restore Point prior to downloading anything. Then if it goes bad you can roll it back and that usually works pretty well if you have not changed or removed any of the files or folders related to the installed product or messed with the Registry. Eventually you will want to have either Sql Server Express or the Compact Edition to use as a Database for your projects unless you use the MsAccess Database. Your system will likely be fine even iif the UnInstall went badly. It will only show a problem when you try and ReInstall Sql Express so don't panic. And, in most cases you can clean things up. In my case I did something where I could never get rid of the Default instance even though I Uninstalled everything I thought. I had to ReInstall the OS to get a clean computer and there after have been very careful about installing and UnInstalling that puppy. I hope I didn't mess that up. ----- Original Message ----- From: RicksPlace To: programmingblind@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Saturday, May 22, 2010 5:27 AM Subject: UnInstalling Sql Server Warning Hi: If you are thinking of UnInstalling or Installing Sql Server be very careful! If you have a problem with UnInstlling this software, and it has to be done in a particular way or it won't work, you can make it almost impossible to ReInstall and in the worst case you might have to ReInstall the OS to get VS and Sql Server to work properly. Ask on list about uninstalling that puppy unless you know how to do it! Rick USA
