Bob, did you try the steps I outlined? The registration should be for your
version of Sql Server Express. Also, on the main download page, or one of them,
you can download the Sql Server Express R2 version I think, never done it, and
there is a link on that page that says register your broduct before you
download it. So if things really get bad, and you made a system restore prior
to installing Sql Server Express you can restore your system and try the new
Sql Server Express.
That is if you did not try and UnInstall the current version, change anything
in the registry or delete any of the downloaded folders or files.

In the register product window, there is a space that says registration
benefits. I clicked on it with the Jaws cursor and it took me to a page to
register 2010.
I'm not feeling good about getting 2008 registered now. If anyone has a
trick please share.

Which download page are you referring too as I didn't spot anything on
either of the basic and advanced package pages. I too would be interested to
know where to find the product key for SQLServer 2008 Express. Perhaps a phone

Have you ever registered any other products? I ask because a popup
comes up where you have to click on something, you are taken to a Microsoft
Website where you fill out some stuff and click to register your product, then,
on the Webpage it gives you a registration code where you copy it. Then you alt
tab back to your popup that is still on your computer and paste the code into
the text box and click the register button. You might even have had to have set
up a password in the Microsoft page. This is all just from memory but I can dig
into it more if you are not familiar withthe process. The first time you go
through the registration process with a screen reader is a pain but it works
even though it is a little confusing. If you need some help I will see if I can
make a step by step. I know that I had to use the mouse keys, in windowyeyes,
to click the Register Now button on the popup that asks for the registration
key after clicking the register under the help menu.

bit.
How do you get a product key. I went to help and clicked on register
and it expected me to already have a key.

Actually you don't open SqlServer like you do any other
application. It is just something that runs on your computer. You use some
tools to manage the Server and you connect to it from within a Application
Program that you might write. But, you do not open it. When you download it you
should have a folder entery added to your start menu like Microsoft Sql Server
2008 Express or something. If you expand and cursor down the list of items you
might see something like Configuration Manager, Management Studio and perhaps
some other things. The Configuration Manager and Managment Studio are the
things you click on to set properties or do things in your Server or any
DataBases you build and add to your Server. Like Visual Studio the IDEs of the
applications that you use are sometimes tricky to get around and use with a
Screen Reader. Sql Server is a complicated Animal. There is a group of
Professionals who usually work on diferent aspects of it. There are Database
Administraters, Dabase Analysts and DataBase Programmers. The Administrators
usually use the tools like the Configuration Manager, the Analysts might use
the Management Studio. Programmers will use a language like Visual Basic or
CSharp to work with a Sql Server Database. If your download and install went ok
the server should be running whenever you have your computer turned on. What
version did you download? I mean did you download Sql Server Express 2008 with
Tools or with Advanced Options or which version? That will determine what
applications are to be found in the Microsoft Sql Server 2008 folder in your
Start Menu and what settings might have to be tweaked when you try to use it.
Do not change anything yet until you know if the install went through ok. Also,
I hope you made a Restore Point before you installed Sql Server. If your system
is set up to do it automatically you can use that restore point to back out of
that install if you have not changed or deleted any files or folders related to
Sql Server if things go bad. Do not try and remove it manually without reading
some articles on the steps to do that. Things need to be UnInstalled in a
particular order and you might get into trouble if done incorrectly so be
careful and don't change things unless you are sure what you are doing.
Remember they pay DB Administrators and Analysts anywhere from $50,000 to
upwards of 6 figures to do the stuff you are now playing with and they don't
give them that money for nothing!

Hi: If you are thinking of UnInstalling or Installing Sql
Server be very careful! If you have a problem with UnInstlling this software,
and it has to be done in a particular way or it won't work, you can make it
almost impossible to ReInstall and in the worst case you might have to
ReInstall the OS to get VS and Sql Server to work properly. Ask on list about
uninstalling that puppy unless you know how to do it!
