I forget the name, but Microsoft also makes what it views as a
competitor to
cygwin, a little linux that runs on windows.  Someone on program-l,
probably
Mark Long who was the microsoft employee, I believe was the one who
called
attention to it. But like a lot of things microsoft puts out, I forget
the
details.

Cygwin is what you want. It is virtually a full-fledged Linux. My
computer is Vista also and Cygwin runs fine. Jaws does nicely with it.
