Nothing wrong with trying what you suggested yesterday provided you're prepared to reinstall windows on that machine to clean up whatever mess the experiment leaves in your windows registry. Before I tried something like that though if it blew up I'd first run dban on the disk then do a windows installation on it again. If you don't already know about dban, you can check it out at dban.sf.net and also understand if you succeed with your experiment, you are then beyond Microsoft support but then again most Windows users without paying for support calls are in that same boat with you anyway. -----Original Message----- From: programmingblind-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:programmingblind-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Homme, James Sent: Monday, July 12, 2010 15:09 To: programmingblind@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: RE: Jim's VB.net Notes Hi, OK. Well, for now, I'll just put it in my notes that you may have to use the imports directive to get it to work. I'll keep going on the write-up and maybe when or if I uncover what's going on, revise later. Jim Jim Homme, Usability Services, Phone: 412-544-1810. I have a feeling the minds at 1 Microsoft Way were way ahead of you on this one. -----Original Message----- From: programmingblind-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:programmingblind-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Homme, James Sent: Monday, July 12, 2010 14:34 To: programmingblind@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: RE: Jim's VB.net Notes Hi, So if I get rid of VB Express, but use the SDK, it will work then? Part of the crippling Microsoft did was to require the import statement on the crippleware version which isn't required on their $$$$ version. That's the explanation. -----Original Message----- From: programmingblind-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:programmingblind-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Homme, James Sent: Monday, July 12, 2010 14:26 To: programmingblind@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: RE: Jim's VB.net Notes Hi, I'm sure that's possible. Here's what I know. * This machine is XP. * That machine is Vista. * This machine doesn't have Visual Basic Express on it. * That one does. * Both machines have EdSharp. * According to my memory, EdSharp installs The .Net 2.0 SDK if a machine doesn't have it. * The command line for the compiler is the same on both machines as far as I remember. What else should I check when comparing the two computers to see what's up? Thanks. Jim Jim Homme, Usability Services, Phone: 412-544-1810. I'm trying to be accurate in my explanation of what you automatically get when you compile a program. Here's why I'm having trouble figuring this out. When I create the hello world program on this computer, I don't have to use any statements to import any libraries. When I take the same program home, I have to use an imports statement. How do I figure out why this is happening? Thanks. Jim Jim Homme, Usability Services, Phone: 412-544-1810.
