Hi Mike,
The reason I was asking about this is that I ran into a very good Java book.
It's also a text book. It explains things very clearly, although the writing is
a little too artistic for my weird learning style. I was going to point you to
that book, if you happen to have a Safari account, or to the Java Tutorial,
which has a whole section all about Swing. Here's the address of the Java
Tutorial. http://download.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/reallybigindex.html.

Hi James,

I write my Java code with the Sodbeans IDE developed by Dr. Andreas Stefik.
I am now learning Swing using my course textbook. I compared that with
online, free resources such as Introduction to Programming Using Java by
David J. Eck, and found my course textbook to be the most understandable. I
feel like I am getting somewhere now. Finally, while I read your post on
SWT, we are not using that in class which is why I have to learn Swing.
Either way, I am not having issues.

Hi Mike,
How are you writing your Java code?

That's alright. Thank you anyway. I will continue studying my Intro to
Java Comprehensive textbook as I have. Chapter 12 has a great chapter on
Swing which will be used in class. It takes the approach of using Java to
code the GUI elements. It doesn't discuss dragging and dropping to build a
GUI, so I can follow along with that chapter well. I might search Google
and see if I can find a way for the blind to rapidly develop Swing-based
GUIs. The Java II class is the only thing I'm worried about, since my
professor will be using rapid development techniques so I'm kind of worried
that I might get behind by coding a GUI.

I don't use Java for gui (actually, I use Python for everything) so
cannot say for sure, sorry.
